Dynamic Duo

A tenor is a tenor or isn’t it?

For funerals the regular duo

are celebrant and cantor,

priest and singer,

always ready to serve the mourners.

One hopes that the back and forth singing

smoothly flows one phrase into another,

voices blending,

so as to serve and not distract.

This takes time and experience.

The pastor and I have accomplished this feat,

even as we have about the same timbre,

and the same range,

and similar diction so much so,

that many wonder where the other voice is,

as the responses are sung by the Pastor

and the unseen singer answers -

answers sung from high in the choir loft,

with back turned and microphone close.

Gentleman tenor -

and lady tenor -

presenting the music in such a way

that if the mourners look for the other voice,

they are not sure where the singer is.

Maybe the Pastor is a ventriloquist.
